How to use these YouTube fonts
- Type a comment, heading or channel name. Every style updates live.
- The tool is set to YouTube. The Works on YouTube filter hides styles likely to show as boxes.
- Choose the field (comment, description, title or channel name) and check the counter. Fancy letters can count as 2 characters, so it counts the strict way.
- Tap a style to copy it, then paste it into YouTube or YouTube Studio.
Where fancy text helps on YouTube, and where it hurts
YouTube runs on search. People find videos by typing words, so the text that gets you found should stay plain. Fancy text is best in the places people read after they have found you: comments, descriptions and community posts.
| Field | Fancy text? | Limit | Our advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comments | Yes | 10000 | Great for one styled line. YouTube's own bold works here too. |
| Description | Yes | 1000 | Style headings only. Keep keywords, links and timestamps plain. |
| Community posts | Yes | - | Good for a bold first line. |
| Channel name | Yes, with care | 100 | Keep the main name plain so people can search for it. |
| Handle (@name) | No | 30 | Letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods. Some other alphabets are allowed. |
| Video and Shorts titles | Possible, not advised | 100 | Hurts search and accessibility. |
YouTube bold text in comments: the built-in way
YouTube comments have their own simple formatting. Put a symbol on each side of a word or phrase:
*your text*for bold_your text_for italic-your text-for strikethrough
The comment box doesn't preview the result, so you only see it after posting. Punctuation touching the symbols can stop the formatting from working, so check your comment once it is up. These codes are made for comments and usually show as plain symbols in titles and descriptions.
When the built-in codes work, use them. They are real text, so search and screen readers read them normally. Use Unicode fonts when you want a look the codes can't make, like cursive or small caps, or in places the codes don't reach.
YouTube description fonts and comment ideas
Fancy text for YouTube works best in small doses. These YouTube comment fonts and description headings stay readable:
| Use | Example | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Description heading | ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ ๐๐๐ฒ | Makes long descriptions easy to scan |
| Section label | แดสแดแดแด แดสษช๊ฑ แด ษชแด แดแด | Quiet and tidy |
| Comment highlight | ๐ฝ๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฉ ๐๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ | One line, not a paragraph |
| Community post opener | โง๏ฝฅ๏พ: * ๐ก๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ผ ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ป๐ผ๐ * :๏ฝฅ๏พโง | Plain text after the opener |
| Channel name accent | Riya Cooks ๐น๐ถ๐พ๐๐ | Real name plain, accent styled |
| Music channel | โชโซ สแด๊ฐษช สแดแดแด๊ฑ โซโช | Matches the channel mood |
Keep timestamps in plain numbers. YouTube creates chapters from plain timestamps like 00:00, and styled digits are different characters that it won't recognise. The same goes for links and hashtags. Small symbols such as โถ โ or โข make neat bullet points; find more on our symbols page.
Titles, search and your YouTube channel name font
This is where honest advice matters most. YouTube search matches plain words. A fancy letter looks like an "A" to you, but to a computer it is a different character. A title written in fancy text may not show up when someone searches those words, and screen readers may read it as gibberish. Keep titles plain. If you want something eye-catching, put it in the thumbnail.
A YouTube channel name font is a trade-off too. Styling the whole name can make your channel harder to find. Keep the main name plain and style one extra word. To change it, open YouTube Studio, go to Customization and edit your channel name there, or edit your channel from the YouTube app. YouTube limits how often you can change your name and handle, and changing the name of a verified channel can remove the verification badge, so test your idea before you save it.
Why fancy text shows as boxes on some screens
Viewers watch YouTube on phones, computers, smart TVs and game consoles. Some TV and console apps may have fewer characters in their fonts, so rare styles can show as empty boxes (โก) there. Styles marked "Works almost everywhere" are the safest for anything viewers must read. For bold that works on most screens, try the bold text generator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I bold text in YouTube comments?
Type an asterisk on each side, like *great video*. Or copy a bold Unicode style from this page, which also works in descriptions.
Can I use fancy fonts in YouTube titles?
You can paste them, but we don't recommend it. Styled words may not match searches and are hard for screen readers. Keep titles plain.
Will fancy text hurt my YouTube SEO?
It can if you style your keywords. Style headings and decorations only, and keep the words people search for in plain text.
Can my YouTube handle have fancy letters?
No. Handles allow letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods, plus some other alphabets. Fancy letters belong in the channel name or descriptions.
Why don't my timestamps become chapters?
Chapters need plain timestamps starting at 00:00. Styled numbers are different characters, so YouTube ignores them.
Do the same fonts work on other apps?
Yes, mostly. See our Twitter fonts, Instagram fonts and TikTok fonts pages for each app's rules.
