How to use the cursive font generator
- Type your name, bio line or caption in the box above. Every style updates as you type.
- This page opens on the Cursive category, so thin script, bold script and decorated cursive styles come first.
- Tap a style card to copy it. You will see "Copied โ".
- Paste it into your app. Tap โ on a style you like and it stays at the top next time, saved on your device.
- Need just one letter? Tap it in the cursive alphabet chart below.
The platform menu is set to Instagram here. Switch it to TikTok, Discord or another app to update the character counter and the "Works on" filter for that app.
Thin cursive or bold cursive: which script font to pick
These are not font files. Each cursive letter is a separate Unicode character, so the style travels with the text when you paste it. Unicode has two cursive alphabets, and they suit different jobs.
- Thin script, ๐๐พ๐โฏ ๐๐ฝ๐พ๐, looks delicate and elegant. It is lovely for a name or a short quote, but the fine strokes can be hard to read on a small phone screen.
- Bold script, ๐ต๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ ๐ฝ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ผ, has thicker strokes, so it stays clear at small sizes. It is the style shown in the alphabet chart below, and it is the same alphabet people call the freaky font.
If you only want a gentle slant without loops, an italic text generator gives a quieter look.
Why a few cursive letters look slightly different
Look closely at thin script and you may notice that some letters seem a little bigger, thinner or more upright than the rest. There is a simple reason.
The cursive alphabets belong to a Unicode block called Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, added in 2001 so that scientists could write special symbols. But some script letters already existed in an older block, Letterlike Symbols, because physics and maths had used them for years. To avoid duplicates, Unicode left gaps in the new alphabet and reused the old characters.
So in thin cursive, the capitals โฌ โฐ โฑ โ โ โ โณ โ and the small letters โฏ โ โด come from that older block. On some phones a different built-in font draws them, which is why they can look out of step. Bold script has no gaps: all 52 letters come from the same set, which is one reason it looks more even.

Best ways to use cursive letters
- Instagram names and bios. A cursive name or one cursive line at the top of a bio looks polished. See our Instagram fonts page for which fields accept fancy text, and these cursive caption ideas for inspiration.
- Weddings and celebrations. Couple names, save-the-date captions and thank-you messages suit the romantic feel of script.
- A calligraphy look. People often search for a calligraphy font generator. These letters are not hand lettering, but at a glance they give a similar feel. For printed invitations, a design app with a real script font file will look better.
- Tattoo ideas. To compare a name in several script styles at a larger size, try the tattoo font generator.
- Soft aesthetic profiles. Pair cursive with small symbols from our aesthetic fonts collection.
Readability, screen readers and boxes
Cursive is best for a word or a short line. A whole paragraph of script is tiring to read, especially thin script on a phone.
Screen readers may read each cursive letter by its long Unicode name, such as "mathematical bold script capital A", or skip it entirely. That means a blind follower might not hear your name at all. Keep your real name in plain text somewhere in your profile. Styles that screen readers handle badly carry a readability badge in the tool.
If you see empty boxes instead of letters, the device has no font that includes these characters. Older phones and some computers are the usual cause. Bold script tends to display on most modern phones, but a quick test is wise: paste the text into a draft or send it to a friend first. Also note that Unicode has no cursive numbers, so digits stay plain.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a cursive font I can install?
No. Cursive font copy and paste works differently: you get Unicode characters, not a downloadable font file. That is why they work in apps where you cannot change the font, like Instagram bios. To type cursive in a word processor, install a script font file instead.
Where can I get the cursive alphabet to copy and paste?
Use the cursive alphabet chart below the tool. It shows AโZ and aโz in bold script, and you can tap any single letter to copy it.
How do I change my Instagram name to cursive?
Copy your name from the tool, then open your profile, tap Edit profile, paste it into the Name field and save. Instagram may limit how often you can change your name, so check the preview first. Our step-by-step name font guide covers this in detail.
Can I use cursive letters in my Instagram username?
No. Instagram usernames allow only letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Put cursive in your Name field or bio instead.
Why does one letter in my cursive name look different?
In thin script, eleven letters come from an older Unicode block, so your phone may draw them with a different font. Switch to bold script if you want every letter to match.
Why don't my numbers turn cursive?
Unicode does not include cursive digits, so numbers stay in their normal shape. Many people simply leave numbers plain or write them as words.
Is the cursive font the same as the freaky font?
Yes, the "freaky" trend uses the bold script alphabet. The name comes from how people use it jokingly in comments and chats. The letters are the same.
