How to use the typewriter font generator
- Type or paste your text in the box above.
- Find the typewriter style in the list, or search the styles if you want to compare it with others.
- Tap the card to copy it. "Copied โ" confirms it worked.
- Paste it into Instagram, LinkedIn, a chat or anywhere else.
The alphabet chart under the tool shows AโZ, aโz and 0โ9 in typewriter text. Tap any character to copy just that one.
What is a monospace font?
In a monospace font, every character takes up the same width. A thin i gets exactly as much room as a wide m. Mechanical typewriters worked this way because the paper moved one fixed step with every key press. Computer terminals and code editors kept the idea, because equal widths make code line up in neat columns.
Unicode includes a full set of "mathematical monospace" letters and digits, and that's what this tool uses. They are text characters, not a font file, so the retro typewriter letters travel with your text when you paste them.
One limit to know: only letters and numbers have monospace versions. Spaces and punctuation stay in the app's normal font, so columns of text may not line up perfectly.
Typewriter text ideas and where they fit
Typewriter text works best in small doses: a label, a date, a tagline or one line of a bio. Here are some ideas to start from:
| You type | Typewriter result | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| notes to self | ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ | A minimal bio line |
| chapter one | ใ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ใ | Story or poetry captions |
| est. 2019 | ๐๐๐. ๐ธ๐ถ๐ท๐ฟ | Small business or creator tagline |
| hello world | ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ | A developer or tech vibe |
| Dear diary | ๐ณ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ข | Journals, quotes and letters |
| Open to work | ๐พ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ | A small LinkedIn accent, used once |
Typewriter text vs code formatting in Discord and WhatsApp
Looking for a code font to copy and paste? Some apps already have their own built-in code formatting:
- Discord: one backtick on each side (
`like this`) shows inline code. Three backticks (```like this```) make a code block. - WhatsApp: three backticks on each side make monospace text in chats, and newer versions also support single backticks for inline code.
These are formatting codes. They only work inside that app's messages. Paste them into Instagram or a bio and you'll just see the backticks. Unicode typewriter letters work the other way round: they show up in names, bios and captions in most apps, because the style is part of the characters themselves.
Which to use? For real code, tables or text pictures in Discord, use a code block, since everything inside lines up exactly. For style in profiles and posts, use the Unicode version. Our Discord fonts and WhatsApp fonts pages cover each app's formatting in detail, and the text art page has dividers that look great in code blocks.
Poetry, quotes and minimal bios
Typewriter text has a quiet, thoughtful feel. It suits short lowercase poems, like ones typed on an old machine and shared as a photo. It also works for a quote with the author's name in plain text underneath, or a calm, minimal profile like this one:
๐๐๐๐ ๐.
writing small poems in big cities
๐๐๐. ๐ถ๐น
Keep most of the bio plain and use typewriter text for one or two short lines. For more calm, minimal looks, explore aesthetic fonts. Typewriter lettering is also popular for small quote tattoos; you can compare it with other styles in the tattoo font generator.
Using a typewriter font on LinkedIn and in professional posts
LinkedIn posts have no formatting buttons, so Unicode is the only way to change the look of your text. Typewriter letters can label a short section or highlight one phrase. For headings and hooks, bold is usually clearer; the bold text generator and the LinkedIn bold text page explain how to use it well.
Two cautions. LinkedIn search may not match styled words, so keep your name, job title and key skills in plain text. And screen readers may read styled letters one by one, or skip them, which makes long styled passages hard for some readers. Your headline has a limit of 220 characters, and styled letters can count double, so check the counter first.
Why the typewriter style can look different by device
Typewriter letters live in Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. Most modern phones and computers can show them, but older devices may show boxes. The exact shape also depends on the device's font: on some phones the letters look like classic typewriter type, while on others they look closer to a plain, even sans-serif. Check the compatibility badge if your audience uses older phones.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a typewriter font I can install?
No. It's Unicode text you copy and paste, not a font file. That's why it works in apps where you can't choose a font.
Is a monospace font the same as a typewriter font?
Nearly. Typewriter fonts are monospace fonts designed to look like typewriter print. Every monospace font gives each character the same width.
How do I get monospace text in WhatsApp?
In chats, put three backticks on each side of your text. For your name, About or status, where codes don't work, copy the typewriter text from this page instead.
Why don't commas and full stops change?
Unicode only has monospace versions of letters and numbers. Punctuation and spaces stay in the normal font of the app.
Can I use typewriter text on Instagram?
Yes, usually in your name, bio, captions and comments. Your @username only accepts plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
Should I use this for sharing code?
No. The characters look like code but aren't normal letters, so pasted code will not run. Use your app's code block formatting for real code.
