How to copy blank text
Blank space copy and paste takes a few seconds:
- Pick an invisible character from the list. If you are not sure, start with the Hangul Filler for names or the Braille Pattern Blank for messages.
- Tap its copy button. To copy several blanks at once, use the "copy N blank characters" option.
- Paste it into your app. On a phone, press and hold the text box, then tap Paste.
- Save or send. If the app removes the blank or says the field is empty, try a different character.
What is an invisible character?
Unicode, the standard that lists every letter and symbol your phone can show, includes some characters that draw nothing at all. They are real characters, just empty. Some apps check whether a field is "empty" by looking for normal spaces only. These characters are not normal spaces, so the app accepts them, and the result looks blank. Some of them are even treated as letters, which is why they can pass name checks.
The invisible characters on this page
| Character | Code point | Width | Often used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hangul Filler | U+3164 | Varies by font, often one letter or wider | Blank names in apps and games, spaces inside game names |
| Braille Pattern Blank | U+2800 | About one letter wide | Blank messages, empty lines in bios and captions |
| Zero Width Space | U+200B | No width | Breaking up words or links, stopping auto-formatting |
| No-Break Space | U+00A0 | Same as a normal space | Keeping two words on one line, and double spaces that don't shrink to one |
| Em Space | U+2003 | Wide, about the width of a capital M | Indents and roughly centring a line in a bio |
The Hangul Filler comes from the Korean alphabet, and many systems treat it as a letter. That makes it the usual choice for an invisible name. The Braille Pattern Blank is an empty braille cell. It tends to survive in chat apps that strip normal spaces, so it is popular for blank messages and for blank lines that keep a bio from collapsing. The Zero Width Space takes up no room at all, so it is good for splitting things, not for making something look blank. The No-Break Space and Em Space are spacing tools rather than tricks, and some apps trim them at the start or end of a field.
Common uses for empty characters
- Blank messages. Send a message that looks empty, as a joke or a quiet "ping". Try the Braille Pattern Blank first.
- Invisible name. Some apps let you save a name that looks empty using the Hangul Filler. Our WhatsApp fonts page explains this for WhatsApp.
- Spaces in game names. Where a game doesn't allow normal spaces, a blank character can separate two words or symbols. See the stylish name generator and the Free Fire name generator for name ideas.
- Bio spacing. Blank lines or a few wide spaces can give a bio more breathing room or nudge a line towards the centre.
- Stopping auto-links. A Zero Width Space inside a web address or @name can stop some apps turning it into a link or tag.

Honest limits: apps patch these tricks
Invisible characters work because apps don't expect them. Once a trick spreads, many apps update their rules to trim or block it. A character that worked last month may stop working after an update, and it can work on one app and fail on the next.
- Rules. Some games and apps don't allow blank names at all. Others count blank messages as spam. On Discord, many servers ban invisible names because they are hard to mention and moderate.
- Paid renames. If a name change costs money or a rename card in a game, test the character somewhere free first, or ask a friend to check that it works.
- No hiding who you are. A blank name doesn't make you anonymous. The app still knows your account, and using blank names to dodge bans or pretend to be someone else breaks most platforms' rules.
- Accessibility. Screen readers may say "blank", read the character's name, or say nothing. Don't hide important information behind invisible text.
Invisible characters can also cause trouble by accident. If a password, code or link copied from somewhere looks right but doesn't work, a hidden Zero Width Space may be the reason. Typing it again by hand usually fixes it.
Frequently asked questions
What is an invisible character?
It is a real Unicode character that shows nothing on screen. Apps accept it as text, so it can make a message or name look blank.
Which invisible character works best for names?
The Hangul Filler (U+3164) is the usual choice, because many apps treat it as a letter. If an app rejects it, try the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800).
How do I send a blank message?
Copy the Braille Pattern Blank or Hangul Filler and send it on its own. If the send button stays grey, the app is trimming it, so try another character.
Why did the app remove my blank character?
Many apps now trim known blank characters. Try a different one, or a few blanks together, but accept that some apps block them all.
Can I get banned for an invisible name?
It depends on the app or game. Some forbid blank names, and using one to impersonate others or dodge a ban can get an account restricted. Check the rules first.
What is the difference between a zero width space and a normal space?
A normal space has width and splits words. A zero width space has no width, so text looks joined, but apps see a break there.
Is the Hangul Filler the only way to copy and paste empty text?
No. It is one kind of blank text. "Empty text" just means any invisible character, and this page offers several so you can pick the one your app accepts.
