How to use the Facebook font generator
- Type or paste your post, comment or bio line into the box.
- The platform menu is set to Facebook on this page. Turn on the "Works on Facebook" filter to hide styles likely to show as boxes there.
- Choose the field you are writing (post, comment or bio) and the counter shows how many characters you have left.
- Tap a style to copy it, then paste it into Facebook.
Only need a few bold words inside a longer post? Write the post normally, style just those words here and paste them into your draft. The bold alphabet chart below the tool also lets you copy single letters and numbers.
Bold and italic text on Facebook: how it works
Facebook saves posts as plain text. There are no hidden formatting codes like the ones a word processor uses, so there is nothing that can make text bold. The trick is to use different characters. Unicode includes complete bold, italic and bold italic alphabets, and when you paste them, Facebook shows them like any other letter.
That also means the style travels with your words. Share the post, copy it into Messenger or paste it into another app, and the bold stays bold.
| Style | Example | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Sans bold | ๐๐ถ๐ด ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ | Headlines and key lines; the most popular choice |
| Serif bold | ๐๐ข๐ ๐ง๐๐ฐ๐ฌ | A more formal, newspaper look |
| Sans italic | ๐๐ช๐จ ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ธ๐ด | Quotes, titles and side notes |
| Bold italic | ๐ฝ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐๐ฌ๐จ | Strong emphasis |
| Typewriter | ๐ฑ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ | Schedules, lists and tech posts |
| Underline | Bฬฒiฬฒgฬฒ ฬฒnฬฒeฬฒwฬฒsฬฒ | Section headings |
| Strikethrough | Rฬถsฬถ ฬถ9ฬถ9ฬถ9ฬถ | Showing an old price next to a new one |
| Decorated | โ ๅฝก ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๅฝกโ | Page posts and announcements |
More weights and alphabets are on the bold text generator and the italic text generator.
Where fancy text works on Facebook
Facebook stylish text works in most places where you type freely. This is what to expect right now. Facebook can change things, so check before you rely on it.
| Place | Fancy text? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Posts on your profile, a Page or a group | Usually works | Up to 63206 characters |
| Comments and replies | Usually works | Up to 8000 characters |
| Intro (bio) | Usually works | Only 101 characters, and styled letters fill it fast |
| Messenger chats | Usually works | Older phones may show boxes |
| Hashtags | Usually breaks | A styled hashtag typically won't link or appear in hashtag search |
| Profile name | Usually rejected | See the name rules below |
Writing an Intro? Our stylish Facebook bio page has ready-made VIP, attitude and cute bios that fit the limit.
Facebook names: why fancy names usually get rejected
This is where many people get stuck. Facebook's name standards currently say your profile name should be the name you use in everyday life, and that it can't include symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeated characters or punctuation, or characters from several languages mixed together. Fancy letters count as symbols, so a name like ๊งเผบ ๐ก๐ช๐ฑ๐พ๐ต เผป๊ง, or even a simple ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ต๐๐น, is usually refused when you try to save it.
Even if a styled name slips through, it may be flagged later, and Facebook can ask you to confirm your name. Facebook also limits how often you can change your name, so a failed experiment can leave you waiting. We don't recommend tricks to get around these rules.
Better options:
- Put your style in the Intro bio, where fancy text is accepted.
- Use bold or decorated text in your posts and comments.
- Keep your real name plain, so friends and family can find you in search.
For the current rules, search for "names" in the Facebook Help Center.
Keep long Facebook posts readable
Bold text grabs attention in a busy feed, but a whole post in fancy letters is tiring to read and can work against you:
- Accessibility: screen readers may read each styled letter by its long Unicode name, or skip it. People who rely on them could miss your message.
- Search and translation: Facebook search and translation tools may not recognise styled words, so fewer people find or understand them.
- Practical details: styled phone numbers, prices and links usually can't be tapped, called or searched. Keep them plain.
A simple pattern works well: one bold headline, a blank line, then normal text with perhaps one italic quote. The same approach suits bold text on LinkedIn and WhatsApp status fonts.
Why your Facebook fonts show boxes for some friends
Facebook doesn't send a font along with your post. Each reader's phone or computer draws the characters with its own fonts, so a friend with an older Android phone or an old laptop may see boxes where you see perfect letters. To check, publish a test post with the audience set to "Only me", then open it on another device. Bold, italic and typewriter styles are the safest choices for a big audience.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write bold text on Facebook?
Type your text here, tap a bold style such as sans bold to copy it, and paste it into your Facebook post or comment. The bold is built into the characters, so it stays bold after you post.
Can I use a fancy font in my Facebook name?
Usually not. Facebook's name rules currently don't allow symbols or unusual characters in profile names, and styled letters count as symbols, so the change is normally refused. Use fancy text in your Intro bio and posts instead.
Does Facebook have its own bold button?
Most posts, comments and bios don't have one. Facebook has offered basic formatting in a few places, such as some group posts, but it isn't available everywhere and can change. Unicode bold works wherever you can paste text.
Can I use these fonts in Facebook Messenger?
Yes. Messenger shows them like normal text on most modern phones and computers. Very old devices may show boxes, so keep important details plain.
Can I make a bold hashtag on Facebook?
You can paste one, but it usually stops working as a hashtag, because Facebook expects normal letters. Keep hashtags in plain text and style the words around them.
What is the best font for a Facebook bio?
Something short and readable: bold, small caps or one line of cursive, with a symbol or two. The Intro is only 101 characters, so choose the bio field in the counter to see what fits, or start from a template on the Facebook bio page.
How do I turn bold Facebook text back to normal?
Paste it into the unstyle text tool. It converts styled letters back to plain ones so you can edit or reuse the text.
