How to use this Twitter font generator
- Type your post, name or bio line. Every style updates live.
- The tool is set to X, with the Works on X filter on to hide styles that often show as boxes.
- Choose the field (post, name or bio). The counter shows what you have left, counted the way X counts.
- Check the X post preview, then tap a style to copy it.
- Paste into the X post box, or into Edit profile for your name and bio.
Where Twitter fonts work on X
Fancy text for Twitter works in your display name, bio, posts and replies. The @handle is the exception.
| Field | Fancy text? | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display name | Yes | 50 | Shown above every post you make. |
| @handle (username) | No | 15 | Letters, numbers and underscores only. |
| Bio | Yes | 160 | Fancy letters can use 2 characters each. |
| Posts and replies | Yes | 280 | For standard posts. Keep hashtags and @mentions plain. |
Hashtags and mentions need plain letters. A hashtag in bold letters is a different tag from the normal one, and a styled @name will not tag anyone.
Bold text on Twitter without a bold button
Regular posts on X have no bold or italic button. X has added bold and italic for longer posts from Premium subscribers, but what each plan includes changes often. For everyone else, and for names and bios, Unicode is the way to get Twitter bold. These are special letters that look bold wherever you paste them.
| Use | Example | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Hook line | ๐๐ถ๐ด ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ | Catches the eye in a fast feed |
| Thread label | ๐๐ก๐ซ๐๐๐ ๐/๐ | Makes a thread easy to follow |
| Soft emphasis | ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ฎ๐บ ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฏ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ | Italics without shouting |
| Hot take | ๐๐ค๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ | Strong, short openers |
| Tech update | ๐๐ธ.๐ถ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ | Dev and product accounts |
| Joke correction | Mฬถoฬถnฬถdฬถaฬถyฬถ Friday | Crossed-out humour |
| Name accent | Aditi แดกสษชแดแด๊ฑ | Real name stays plain and searchable |
For more weights and styles, see the bold text generator and the italic text generator. Crossed-out lines come from the strikethrough text page.
Formatting a thread people actually finish
- Bold the first line of the first post only. It is the line people see while scrolling.
- Add a short label such as "1/5" so readers know where they are in the thread.
- Leave a blank line between ideas. A line break costs one character and makes posts much easier to read on a phone.
- Save italics for a quote or a book title, not whole sentences.
- End with a plain-text call to action, so search and screen readers handle it well.
Why fancy text uses up your character limit faster
X does not count every character the same. Its developer documentation gives most Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation a weight of 1. Almost everything else, including emoji, Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters, counts as 2. The bold and italic letters on this page come from a math section of Unicode, so they fall into the "counts as 2" group.
That means a post written fully in bold fits only about half as many letters. Underline and strikethrough styles add an extra mark to each letter, so they roughly double the length too. Links are different: X counts every link as a fixed length, however long the address is.
Twitter name font and @handle
Your display name can hold fancy fonts. Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, change Name and save. Your @handle is different: it is set in your account settings and only allows letters, numbers and underscores, up to 15 characters.
Keep your name recognisable. Styling a well-known person's or brand's name to look like their account is impersonation and breaks X's rules. A good Twitter name font sets a mood without hiding who you are.
Accessibility and search on X
Screen readers often read styled letters one by one, by their technical names, or not at all. A post fully in bold can be very hard to follow for someone using one. X search also matches plain words, so a styled keyword may not show up in results. For announcements, job posts and anything important, keep the main message plain and style one short line. If you also post longer notes on LinkedIn, the LinkedIn bold text page has tips for professional posts, and the YouTube fonts page covers comments and video descriptions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I bold text on Twitter (X)?
Type your text here, copy a bold style and paste it into your post. X's own bold option only appears in some paid features, and it changes over time.
Why does my post hit the limit faster with bold text?
X counts these styled letters as 2 characters each. A fully bold post fits about half the words. Style only the first line.
Can I use fancy fonts in my X username?
No. The @handle only allows letters, numbers and underscores. Fancy fonts work in your display name, bio and posts.
How do I change my Twitter name font?
Copy a style here, open your profile, tap Edit profile, paste it into Name and save. Keep your real name readable so people can find you.
Does fancy text hurt reach on X?
We know of no official rule against it. But search won't match styled words, and styled hashtags don't join the normal tag, which can cost you views.
Why do some X fonts show as boxes?
The reader's device lacks that character, which is more common on older phones. Choose styles marked "Works almost everywhere".
How do I turn fancy text back to normal?
Paste it into our unstyle text tool to get plain letters, for example to fix an old bio.
