How to use the cursed text generator
- Type your message in the box above.
- Scroll the cursed styles, which run from a little creepy to completely broken. Every card shows your own words.
- Tap a card to copy it, then paste it into a chat, caption or post.
- The platform menu is set to Discord here, so you can preview the text on a Discord profile card and check the character counter. Switch to TikTok or another app if you are posting there.
Want exact control over how far the letters "bleed"? The glitch text generator has separate sliders for marks above, through and below each letter.
What makes text "cursed"?
"Cursed" started as internet slang for pictures that feel strangely wrong: a blurry photo of a bizarre food combo, a toy staring from a dark corner. Nothing is exactly scary, but something is off. Cursed text is the same idea in writing. The words still say something normal, but they look damaged, ancient or flipped, as if something got into them.
The best-known cursed look uses stacked glitch marks, but cursed text isn't one single style. Anything that makes letters feel unsettling counts, from a creepy font like gothic to a haunted flicker:
| Level | Example | The feeling |
|---|---|---|
| Slightly off | h̴e̴l̴l̴o̴ | Something is wrong, but you can't say what |
| Haunted | h̯̄e̦̓l͕̐l͓̓o̟͋ | A message from a flickering screen |
| Possessed | h̹̅̍̕ͅe̶͇̭͕ͥ̈́͆͛ľ̜̺͆͂̑͜ľ̬̩̐͌̕o̰̲͕ͮ̑̽̀ | The text is fighting back |

| Stitched | h̽e̽l̽l̽o̽ | Sewn together like an old ragdoll |
| Ancient | 𝔥𝔢𝔩𝔩𝔬 | A page from a dusty spell book |
| Flipped | ollǝɥ | The world turned upside down |
| Mirrored | ollɘʜ | A message from the other side of the mirror |
| Marked | ☠ h̹̅̍̕ͅe̶͇̭͕ͥ̈́͆͛ľ̜̺͆͂̑͜ľ̬̩̐͌̕o̰̲͕ͮ̑̽̀ ☠ | A warning you should probably obey |
Mix spooky styles for a creepier look
Really scary text often mixes styles in one line. A calm sentence that suddenly breaks feels much creepier than a wall of noise. Try these recipes:
- Old book plus glitch: 𝕯𝖔 𝖓𝖔𝖙 o̹̅̍̕ͅp̶͇̭͕ͥ̈́͆͛ě̜̺͆͂̑͜ň̬̩̐͌̕
- Calm, then flipped: It is fine. ǝuᴉɟ ʇou sᴉ ʇI
- Skull frame plus gothic: ☠ 𝔎𝔢𝔢𝔭 𝔒𝔲𝔱 ☠
- Moonlight plus a flicker: ☾ m̯̄i̦̓d͕̐n͓̓i̟͋g̩̐h̜̉t̼̾ ☽
The generator gives you one style per card. To give each word its own style and add a glitch slider on top, use the Name & Bio Builder. For more spooky letters, see the Old English font generator, and for flipped words, the upside down text page.

Spooky Discord servers
Give your server nickname a mild cursed makeover for October, announce a horror game night with a glitched title, or post a cursed "rules" message as a joke. Keep it to a line or two so the channel stays usable. The Discord fonts page explains which Discord fields accept fancy text.
Memes and reactions
Reply to a strange food combo with a single cursed word, such as w̹̅̍̕ͅh̶͇̭͕ͥ̈́͆͛y̜̺̌͆͂̑͜. Caption a photo of your cat staring at an empty wall with ɘɿɘʜƚ ꙅi oʜw. Short is funnier.
Stories, games and puzzles
Writers and game hosts use haunted text for a voice that isn't quite human, a haunted diary page or a hidden clue in a puzzle hunt or escape-room game.
Be considerate: why cursed text gets removed
Cursed text is funny once. In a busy chat, heavy cursed text can:
- spill over other people's messages and make them hard to read
- make some older phones lag while scrolling past it
- sound like a long string of noise to someone using a screen reader
That is why many Discord servers run moderation bots that delete heavily glitched messages or reset cursed nicknames to plain text, and why some apps strip the marks out of names. If your cursed text vanished, it was probably filtered, not broken. Check the server rules before posting a lot of it in someone else's space, keep names at the mild end, and remember anyone can clean it up with the fancy text to normal text tool.
Why some cursed letters show as boxes
The marks behind glitchy cursed text are the same family of marks that put accents on letters in many languages, so most devices can draw them. Boxes usually come from the other ingredients: a rare symbol in a frame, or a lookalike letter from an alphabet the device has no font for. And if your cursed name suddenly looks plain, the app most likely removed the marks rather than failed to show them.
Frequently asked questions
What is cursed text?
Cursed text is normal writing made to look haunted, glitched or wrong, using Unicode tricks like stacked marks, gothic letters, mirrored letters or upside down text. People also call it a cursed font, although it is made of characters rather than a font file. It is popular for memes, Halloween posts and spooky Discord servers.
What is the difference between cursed text and Zalgo?
Zalgo is one specific technique: stacking many combining marks on each letter. Cursed text is the wider meme idea and can also use gothic, flipped or mirrored letters. Our Zalgo text generator explains the technique and lets you fine-tune it with sliders.
Can I use cursed text in my Discord name?
Your display name and server nickname often accept a mild version, but your username does not. Some servers use bots that rename members with heavily glitched names, so keep it light.
Why did my cursed text get deleted?
Probably a filter. Many servers and some apps remove heavy glitch text automatically, because it can cover other messages. Try a milder style or ask the moderators what is allowed.
How do I make cursed text easier to read?
Pick a lower level such as "slightly off" or "haunted", curse only one word in the sentence, and leave a blank line around it. Gothic or mirrored letters look eerie while staying fairly readable.
Can cursed text harm my phone?
No. It is just text, not a virus. Very heavy glitch text can make a chat scroll slowly on some older phones for a moment, which is one more reason to keep it short.
How do I turn cursed text back to normal?
Paste it into the unstyle tool. It strips the stacked marks and converts lookalike letters back to plain text where it can.
