How to use the small text generator
- Type your text in the box above.
- The Small category is open, so small caps, superscript and subscript appear first.
- Tap a style to copy it ("Copied ✓"), then paste it where you need it.
- For one letter, tap it in the small caps alphabet chart below.
One box covers all three jobs: it is a tiny text generator, a superscript generator and a subscript generator at the same time. Making a game or profile name? Choose the app in the platform menu so the character counter can check your length.
Three ways to make tiny text
Your phone cannot shrink one word in a bio, so small text uses special Unicode characters that are drawn small. Unicode never planned a full tiny alphabet, which is why each style has gaps.
- Small caps look like capital letters at lowercase height. Most come from the International Phonetic Alphabet and related blocks used by language experts. There is no small capital x, so x stays as it is, which usually blends in.
- Superscript letters sit high and tiny, like a footnote mark. They come from modifier letters used in phonetic writing, plus raised digits. There is no true superscript q, and several capitals have no raised form.
- Subscript letters sit low, as in chemical formulas. Unicode has only a short list of them, so letters such as c, d, f, g, q, w, y and z stay normal size, and there are no subscript capitals.
Alphabet test: see the gaps yourself
Here is the full lowercase alphabet and the digits in each style. Letters that cannot convert stay normal, so you can spot the gaps at a glance.
| Style | Letters | Digits |
|---|---|---|
| Small caps | ᴀʙᴄᴅᴇꜰɢʜɪᴊᴋʟᴍɴᴏᴘǫʀꜱᴛᴜᴠᴡxʏᴢ | 0123456789 |
| Superscript | ᵃᵇᶜᵈᵉᶠᵍʰⁱʲᵏˡᵐⁿᵒᵖᑫʳˢᵗᵘᵛʷˣʸᶻ | ⁰¹²³⁴⁵⁶⁷⁸⁹ |
| Subscript | ₐbcdₑfgₕᵢⱼₖₗₘₙₒₚqᵣₛₜᵤᵥwₓyz | ₀₁₂₃₄₅₆₇₈₉ |
Small caps keep normal digits, while superscript and subscript have a full set of tiny numbers.
Small text examples
| You type | Result | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Riya Sharma | ʀɪʏᴀ ꜱʜᴀʀᴍᴀ | Clean, minimal display names |
| good vibes only | ɢᴏᴏᴅ ᴠɪʙᴇꜱ ᴏɴʟʏ | A quiet bio line |
| thank you | ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏ ʸᵒᵘ | Whisper-style comments |
| x2 | x² | Maths powers |
| H2O | H₂O | Chemistry formulas |
| Terms apply 1 | Terms apply¹ | Footnotes in posts |
| Shadow | ★彡 ꜱʜᴀᴅᴏᴡ 彡★ | Game names |
Notice the trick in the maths and chemistry rows: convert only the part that should be small, then paste it next to normal text.
Ideas for small letters
- Aesthetic names and bios. Small caps look calm and tidy. They pair well with soft symbols from our aesthetic fonts.
- Game names. Small caps are a common choice for clean, modern-looking gaming names. Build one with the stylish name generator or the Free Fire name generator, and test it before paying for a rename, since games may reject some characters.
- Layered bios. Put a bold or bubble name on top and a line of tiny text below.
- Footnotes and side notes. A raised number or a tiny ᵖˢ adds a small aside without cluttering a caption.
- Which style to pick? For names and bios, small caps are the most complete and readable. Use superscript for short asides, and subscript only for formulas, since it has the most gaps.
- Spacing. For gaps that apps would normally remove, an invisible character can help.
Character counter tips
Small font copy and paste has one surprise. Small text looks shorter, but it is not shorter. Every tiny letter is still a full character, and some apps count certain small letters as two. A name that looks short can still hit a limit. Pick your app in the platform menu and the counter will count the strict way, so you know before you paste.
Screen readers and boxes
Because these letters are borrowed from phonetic writing, a screen reader may read them by their technical names, such as "Latin letter small capital A" or "modifier letter small t", or skip them. A small caps name might sound like a string of jargon. Keep your real name in plain text in your profile, and avoid tiny text for anything people must understand.
Small caps show on nearly every modern phone. A few small caps and many superscript and subscript letters come from newer blocks, so older devices may show boxes. Check the compatibility badge, or send yourself a test.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some letters not small in subscript?
Unicode only includes subscript versions of some letters. The others have no tiny form, so they stay normal size. The alphabet test above shows exactly which ones.
Why is there no tiny q?
Unicode has no true superscript q. Some generators use a lookalike, but it may not match the other letters perfectly.
Are small caps the same as lowercase?
No. Small caps have the shapes of capital letters at the height of lowercase ones, which gives a neat, even look.
How do I write x squared or H2O with small numbers?
Type only the number in the box, copy the superscript or subscript version, and paste it right after the normal letter.
Does small text save characters?
No. Each small letter is still one character, and some apps count it as two. Use the counter if you are close to a limit.
Will small caps work in my game name?
Often, but not always. Games set their own rules and change them. Try the name first, especially before using a paid rename.
Can I make text even smaller?
Not with Unicode. These are the smallest letter forms available. The actual size on screen is set by the app.
