How to use this Discord font generator
- Type your name or message. Every style updates live.
- The tool is set to Discord, so the Works on Discord filter hides styles that tend to show as boxes in the app.
- Choose the field (display name, nickname, About Me or message) and watch the counter.
- Look at the profile card preview to see how your fancy Discord name will sit next to your avatar.
- Tap a style to copy it, then paste it into Discord.
Where Discord fonts work, field by field
Discord has two kinds of name. Your username is the unique ID people add you with. Your display name is what everyone sees in chat. Fancy fonts only work in the second one.
| Field | Fancy fonts? | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display name | Yes | 32 | Shown across every server unless you set a nickname. |
| Username | No | 32 | Lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores only. Two periods in a row are not allowed. |
| Server nickname | Usually | 32 | Each server can have its own rules or bots. |
| About Me | Yes | 190 | Short, so every character counts. |
| Messages | Yes | 2000 | Standard account limit. Nitro raises it. |
To change your display name, open User Settings, find your profile section and edit Display Name. For a nickname in just one server, open that server's menu and edit your server profile. Menu names and places can change between app updates.
Discord text formatting vs Unicode fonts
Discord has its own built-in formatting, called markdown. You type symbols around your words and Discord styles them when you send the message:
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
**text** | Bold |
*text* or _text_ | Italic |
__text__ | Underline |
~~text~~ | Strikethrough |
||text|| | Spoiler (hidden until clicked) |
# text, ## text, ### text | Big, medium and small headers (start of a line) |
-# text | Small grey subtext |
`text` or ```text``` | Code line or code block |
> text | Quote |
[text](link) | Masked link |
Markdown is the better choice inside messages. It is real text, so search and screen readers handle it well. But it only works where Discord renders it, and it never works in display names. That is where Unicode fonts come in: they are characters, not formatting, so they show up in names, nicknames, your About Me and even outside Discord. Markdown also cannot make cursive, gothic or bubble letters.
Fancy Discord name ideas
These Discord name fonts copy and paste straight into a display name or server nickname. Short names with one decoration look best in a busy member list.
| Style | Example | Vibe |
|---|---|---|
| Clean small caps | ๊ฑสแดแด แดแดก | Readable and easy to mention |
| Bold script with wings | ๊งเผบ ๐๐ธ๐ฟ๐ช เผป๊ง | Stands out in a member list |
| Gothic | ๐ฝ๐๐๐๐๐ | Gaming and dark themes |
| Moon and soft script | โพ ๐๐๐๐ถ โฝ | Art and chill servers |
| Kanji frame | ไบ ๐๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ไบ | Competitive gaming tag |
| Wide letters | ๏ฝ๏ฝ๏ฝ๏ฝใ๏ฝ๏ฝ๏ฝ | Music and aesthetic servers |
Many server owners use fancy text for channel and role names too, such as แดษดษดแดแดษดแดแดแดแดษดแด๊ฑ. For multi-line art in messages, put it in a code block so it keeps its shape. Our text art page has kaomoji and dividers that suit Discord.
Moderation bots and fancy names: an honest note
Many servers run bots or rules that change nicknames automatically. Some "dehoist" names that start with symbols to jump to the top of the member list. Others reset names that cannot be typed or mentioned easily. If your nickname suddenly changes, that is usually why, and it is the server's choice to make.
- Keep part of your name in plain letters so others can @mention you.
- Heavy glitch text and cursed text can cover other messages. Many servers delete it, so keep it light.
- Blank names made with an invisible character break the rules on many servers.
- Moderators can paste a confusing name into our unstyle tool to read it as normal text.
Counting, boxes and accessibility
Many fancy letters are stored as two pieces of code, and some counters treat them as 2 characters. Our counter counts the strict way, so a name that fits here should fit on Discord. Decorations such as ๊ง ๊ง eat space fast in a 190-character About Me.
Discord shows most styles well on new phones and computers. Rare symbols may still show as boxes on older devices. Screen readers can read styled letters badly, so put anything important, like server rules or event times, in plain text with markdown for emphasis.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change my Discord name font?
Copy a style here, open User Settings, edit your Display Name, paste and save. To change it for one server only, edit your server profile nickname instead.
Can I use fancy fonts in my Discord username?
No. Usernames only accept lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Use fancy fonts in your display name or nickname.
How do I make bold or strikethrough text on Discord?
Wrap words in **double asterisks** for bold or ~~double tildes~~ for strikethrough. For lines that also work outside Discord, try our strikethrough text generator.
Why did my server nickname get changed?
A moderator or bot probably reset it. Many servers block names that start with symbols, cannot be mentioned or are hard to read.
Do Discord fonts work in About Me?
Yes. Unicode fonts work in About Me, and basic markdown such as bold usually does too. Remember fancy letters can use 2 characters each.
How is a monospace font different from a Discord code block?
A code block only works inside Discord messages. The typewriter font uses Unicode characters, so the look also works in names and in other apps.
Why do some Discord fonts show as boxes?
The device viewing the text lacks that character. This is more common on older phones. Choose styles marked "Works almost everywhere".
